Subject: FW: [Fwd: Meeting]
****, I am responding from our school email because I am having problems
with my home email conversion from BellSouth to AT&T.
I will respond to what I read as your two main issues. First, there is a
distinction between parliamentarian procedures and state law. State law
of any incorporating organization takes presedence over the procedures
of Robert's Rules. Tennessee law provides that a corporation with
members (which is an organization like Bellevue) shall hold a special
meeting of members on call of its board of directors. The law goes on to
say that only business within the purpose or purposes described in the
meeting notice may be conducted at a special meeting of members.
Therefore, we are legally and appropriately conducting the meeting to
elect messengers only.
Your second point appears to go to motive of leadership.
I will reaffirm
that the Administration and leadership had fully prepared for a number
of possibilities in the business meeting. However, that preparation
included dealing with motion for early adjournment as well final
adjournment. Contrary to some discussion, there were no prepared
"signals" nor a set up against any individual or motion.
Finally, I will tell you that the annual business meeting lasted longer
and included more debate on the two traditional motions than our
historical meetings. However, the meeting was not designed to provide a
forum to present issues other than business. I will tell you that David
Coombs is following through on his commitment to provide an open forum
meeting to discuss issues.
Hopefully, I have clearly and fairly addressed your concerns. On a
personal note. I will tell you that I have been at Bellevue for 23 years
and have been blessed with the privilige to serve as Deacon Chairman
under Dr. Rogers as well as Dr. Gaines. My only motive is to see
Bellevue Baptist Church fulfill the Great Commission and mission that He
has given to us for His glory. Please continue to pray that His church
will be built up and used for His purposes!! God Bless!
